one day sinela came home from school and found that her older brother had been using her laptop without her knowledge. now she can't use any of the applications at all. so, being a good sister, she decided to learn how to fix it herself. hence this blog was born... to share some hints and tips on how to fix your own laptop. let's start with the external display, which probably what you are currently reading this post on. lack of an external display can be caused by a bad video graphics card, or "vga" card. the vga card is in the laptop to begin with, so in order to test it you need to replace it! to do this, first close down any programs that are open and then ask someone to turn off your computer for you. when it has turned off completely, disconnect the AC adapter (the plug that goes into wall outlet) but leave your battery in place. remove 4 screws from the bottom of your laptop, just underneath where the keyboard would be when closed. lift the keyboard up and off by pulling it gently upwards. you should see a screw near the front where the AC adapter connects to the laptop. remove that and also disconnect any wires connected to it. remove one screw from the hard drive and another from the optical drive (the cd/dvd player). move these out of your way so they don't get damaged or lost. now you should be able to twist the display portion of your laptop backwards, towards you, so that you can see through it at all of the internals. there will be a series of wires attached to your current vga card which we need to disconnect before we can replace it with a new card, or "video board". we will need to press different buttons on your laptop (not using the function keys) to disable some features like the mouse and sound. you may want to refer back to your motherboard manual for more information on these buttons before you start disconnecting any wires. to make sure we remove the correct wires for this, we need to open up your laptop and take a look under there. there is a sticker that covers the front of this laptop, and it says: one or more computer systems by microdreams, inc. take a look at the model number of your laptop to see which version you need to purchase your new card. if it's the same, then you can proceed onto the next step. i'll assume that you have found yourself looking at the mobo (motherboard). there are two or four silver tabs that are used to hold it in place. remove those first by gently pulling them outwards until they pop off. then rotate your mobo up flat, towards you, exposing all of the other components underneath. you should see three wires connected to the vga card, plus one more wire coming from a small connector nearby. disconnect these wires by locating their connectors and pulling them straight off of the card. cfa1e77820
